何謂純素? What's vegan?

   所謂純素,就是全植物性飲食,而台灣人所認知的蔥、蒜、洋蔥等等的五辛對純素主義者來說都是可以吃的。與一般素食不同的地方是,除了不吃肉和海鮮外,純素主義者也不吃蜂蜜,乳製品或任何從動物生產的東西。 但是,純素不僅是一種飲食習慣。這也是對所有生物的尊重與態度。純素的核心是尊重地球上的所有生命,所有物種應該得到平等對待。所以,純素主義者也提倡不買毛皮、皮革等,也不購買有經動物試驗的產品。 
   Unlike vegetarian, besides of not eating meat and seafood, vegan also don't eat honey, dairy product or any other thing that produce from animals.

But, Vegan is not only a kind of diet. It's also a behavior and attitude toward all the living beings. The main idea of vegan is to respect all the animals on the planet, we think that all species should be treated equally. So, vegans also don't buy any fur, leather and so on, as well as being against of animal testing.

為何選擇成為純素者? Why vegan?

- 為了動物:所謂的己所不欲,勿施於人。我們應該要善待所有生命(不要說植物也有感覺,我們應該先保護跟我們一樣會哭會笑的生命,何況畜牧業需要更大量的飼料(植物)來飼養他們!)


- 為了環境:生產蔬菜比生產肉更節能!為什麼要拿10噸的穀物換一噸牛肉呢? 而且,畜牧業的溫室氣體排放量遠比其他產業多了好幾唄。也因為現在人對肉類的需求量大增,很多熱帶雨林都被開發成為放牧地,造成嚴重的環境問題。

- 為了健康:只要經過精心設計,植物性飲食也可以富含蛋白質,鐵,鈣和其他必需維生素和礦物質。這些營養物質的飽和脂肪含量低,纖維含量高,含有抗氧化劑,有助於減少現代世界上最大的一些健康問題,如肥胖,心髒病,糖尿病和癌症。

-為了人類:全植物飲食也是養育人類家庭的一種更永續的方式,因為植物的飲食只需要我們用來生產肉類和乳製品土地的三分之一的土地,也就是我們可以用更少的土地養活更多的人,也可以減少對土地的負擔。 此外,我們人類事實上並不是肉食性的。我們的牙齒不能讓我們直接撕碎動物的生肉。談到犬齒,許多食草動物像河馬和兔子也換我們一樣有犬齒。 當我們看到一隻兔子,會想要鋪上取將他咬死嗎?我想答案是不會的,但當看見水果和蔬菜時,我們一定立刻拿起來咬,對吧? :)

-FOR ANIMALS: every single being need to be treated as we would like to be treated (don't argue with the statement of the plant also have feelings, we should first save those who can cry and jump as we can!!)

-FOR ENVIRONMENT: producing plants is way more energy efficient than producing meat!! Why feed 10 tons of grains to get one ton of beef?? Nonsense!! There are people starving!!! Also, farm animals produce lots of global warming gases!!

-FOR HUMAIN:  the Plant-based living is also a more sustainable way of feeding the human family. A plant-based diet requires only one-third of the land needed to support a meat and dairy diet. 

    Moreover, we human are actually not born for meats.Let's look at our teeth, we can't use our teeth to tear raw meats like those omnivores... When it comes to our canines, many herbivores like hippos and rabbits, they also got one.

如何開始純素飲食?太難了!
一點都不!!!我的意思是,如果你想要在一個晚上從嚴重肉食主義者轉為純素,可能真的很難,而且非常就放棄了。所以成功的關鍵是,開始的順序!在轉為純素之前,我已經成為蛋奶素者兩三年的時間了。慢慢來,你會更得心應手,也不會這麼快就覺得不可能。以下是我的建議:

1. 放下所有肉類,海鮮和雞蛋。這是最簡單的一步,你仍然可以有很多的選擇。

 

2.避開明顯的的乳製品以及動物性產品:牛奶,奶酪和蜂蜜!除了牛奶,我們可以選擇植物奶,如黃豆、杏仁、腰果、椰子....選不用傷害任何動物的飲品!市面上有7種植物奶,肯定找到一個你喜歡的!也可以使用龍舌蘭,楓糖漿代替蜂蜜!

3. 避免隱藏的乳製品和蛋。當您已經習慣了上一步,那麼現在是時候閱讀產品的成分列表,並放棄含有乳製品和蛋了。這一步將會比較困難,因為需要非常仔細地閱讀,有時可能會很沮喪,也會發現許多產品都不能列在你的食物清單中。但是嘿!繼續走下去!!!!!一定可以的!

4.對毛皮,皮革,羊毛等動物行業說不。當你已經能夠對食物方面得心應手時,那麼你可以嘗試盡可能不要支持那些可怕且殘忍的產業。這一步是最難的,因為我們可能早就已經習慣了這種生活方式,很多時候我們甚至找不到一個純素的選項。但是,不用擔心!隨著純素主義越來越壯大,許多公司開始出現符合純素要求產品,如純素皮革,純素羊毛,非動物試驗化妝品等。這是多麼驚人的一件事情!我不會要求要你把所有的皮包丟棄,再買一個純素的產品去代替他,因為這是一種浪費,也會花費你許多的錢!如果你不會覺得使用他們讓你不舒服,請繼續使用它,直到它完全壞了,再用純素產品替代它。像我還有幾件羊毛衣服和媽媽媽媽給我的皮包再我的衣櫥裡。只要一步一步的做你相信的事就好!這個改變正在發生,就因為你的決定!

 How Can I Start A Vegan Diet? It's Too Tough!!!!

 

   No, not at all!!! I mean, it might really be tough if you turn from heavy meat eater to vegan in one night. So the clue is, START IT STEP BY STEP!! Before I became a vegan, I was a vegetarian for many years. As doing so, you will feel more at ease to go vegan. Here's my suggestion:

 

1. Quit all the meats, sea food and eggs.This is the easiest part, you can still have tons of choice to eat.

 

2. Give up the direct dairy products: milk, cheese and also honey!! Aside from milk, we can choose the plant based milk such as soy, almond, hemp, cashew, coconut....milk that didn't harm any animals!!!   There are 7 kinds of non-dairy milk and you can surely find one that you adore!!! use agave, maple syrup... to replace honey!!

 

3. Avoid the hidden dairy and egg.When you already get used to the previous step, then, now is time to read the ingredient list of the products and drop off the those who contain dairy and egg. This step will be more difficult because you need to read very carefully and sometimes you might be very depressed that many products are not in your food list. But hey!!! Keep on going!!!!!

 

4. Say No to fur, leather, wool and other animals based industry. When you major in what you eat, then you can try as best as you can to not supporting those horrible industries!! This step is the hardest because we are already getting used to this life style and many times we can't even find one with vegan options. But, no panic!! As the vegan group getting bigger and bigger, lots of ethnic companies starting come out with tons of vegan product such as vegan leather, plant-based wool, non-animal-testing cosmetic. How amazing!!!! I'm not going to tell you to dump all your leather bag and replace all the things in a vegan one because it will be a waste and might cost you a fortune!! If you feel comfortable with it, use it until it ruined and then replace it by a vegan one. Even me, I still have a few wool clothes and a leather bag that my mom gave me in the closet. Just take it step by step and do what you believe in!! The change is happening as you decide to do so!!!!  

 

Am I No Longer Able To Enjoy Delicious Food Or Eating Out?

 

No! You're totally wrong!!! There are tons of delicious food recipes and restaurant out there!! You can type "vegan" on the youtube then I promise that you will find all the amazing dishes and desserts in vegan version!!! And you can use the website Happy Cow (https://www.happycow.net/) to locate vegan restaurant all over the world!! How cool isn't it?? 

 

     There are many things that you might notice that they aren't vegan. BUT don't be freaked out when you see this long list!!! Just do it step by step from the simplest part--Quit meats, egg, and dairy, then, you can start working on this:)
